21 years of experience in Medical Residency in Homeopathy at the Gaffrée and Guinle University Hospital of the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro
Abstract
The School of Medicine and Surgery of the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, founded by homeopathic doctors in 1912, the 4th oldest medical school in Brazil, has maintained the teaching of homeopathy in its undergraduate courses since its inception, which became mandatory again in 1999. He began the first medicalresidency in homeopathy in Brazil in 2004, further enhancing the quality of his practice at the Gaffrée and Guinle University Hospital. The homeopathy service is both supportive and academic, treating patients of all ages with various pathologies in outpatient clinics, wards, palliative care, and intensive care units. Resident homeopathy physicians treat a large number of patients with pathologies of varying complexity (from primary to tertiary care and epidemics), ensuring more comprehensive medical training within a university hospital structure. Preliminary studies of the profile of patients seen at our outpatient clinic show: 0-10 years 8%, 10-20 years 6%, 20-30 years 16%, 30-40 years 6%, 40-50 years 10%, 50-60 years 19%, 60-70 years 19%, 70-80 years 21%, over 80 years 6%. Diagnoses: asthma 2.6%, bronchitis 2.6%, depression 2.6%, gastritis 2.6%, hypertension 11.3%, other 69.6%. Resolution: 21.2% cure, 51.5% improvement, 18.2% unchanged, 9.1% worsening. Homeopathy in the hospital environment strengthens our specialty, earns respect through its therapeutic efficacy, and justifies the need for its presence in undergraduate medical education.
