Therapeutic Mandalas: Making Visible the Invisible
Abstract
Spontaneous mandalas are used in psychoanalysis based on the theories of psychiatrists Carl Jung from Switzerland and Nise da Silveira from Brazil, who consider the image a bridge connecting the unconscious to the conscious. The project approved at the Institute of Psychiatry of UFRJ aims to study the effect of spontaneous mandalas in reducing anxiety in individuals. Three different groups were examined: (1) women aged 45 to 70 in online workshops; (2) mothers of autistic children and adolescents in situations of financial and social vulnerability; (3) graduate students from the Institute of Medical Biochemistry of UFRJ. In all groups, a significant reduction in anxiety levels was observed. The implications of the variations in the data within a group will be discussed.
