Abstract
The new WHO Global Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025-2034 provides an ambitious vision of universal access to safe, effective and people-centred traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine (TCIM) for the health and well-being of all.
The strategy is divided in four objectives covering research; regulation of practices, practitioners and products; integration into health systems; and maximising the cross-sector value of TCIM for well-being societies, One Health and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. A set of principles are meant to guide the strategy’s implementation, such as the right to health and autonomy, holism and health, evidence based, and people-centred care.
In addition, to outlining the strategy, this keynote speech will provide context and background on the thinking and concepts that went into drafting the strategy and reflect on priorities and possible barriers for governments, stakeholders and the WHO itself to implement the strategy.
