3rd World Congress on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine

General Provisions

Objective: To recognize scientific excellence, innovation, and the impact of academic contributions through a focused evaluation process executed during the congress.

Key Information

  • Total Awards: Up to 10 awards (4 main + 6 special categories)
  • Nature: Strictly academic, no financial compensation
  • Evaluation: Combined scoring system (previous evaluation + in-person assessment)

Evaluation Components

Component Description Weight
Component 1 Technical evaluation of abstracts (already completed) 70%
Component 2 In-person presentation evaluation during congress 30%

Main Award Categories

Selection based on weighted scoring: 70% previous technical score + 30% in-person presentation

🏆 Best Scientific Research Award

Eligibility: Top 10 submissions with highest technical score (announced by October 14)

Evaluation:

  • Previous technical score: 70%
  • In-person oral presentation: 30%

🏆 Best Clinical Case Report Award

Eligibility: Top 5 case report submissions with highest technical score (announced by October 14)

Evaluation:

  • Previous technical score: 70%
  • In-person oral presentation: 30%

🏆 Best Poster Award

Eligibility: All posters

Evaluation:

  • Scientific content (previous evaluation): 70%
  • Design and communication (in-person): 30%

🏆 Best Experience Report Award (IdeiaSUS Fiocruz Award)

Eligibility: All experience reports

Evaluation: Direct nomination by Fiocruz curating team based on:

  • Relevance to public health
  • Originality
  • Impact assessment

Special Categories (Honorable Mentions)

Selection Method: Popular vote by congress attendees through the official conference application

Voting: Each attendee may nominate one work per category

Note: Clinical case reports are NOT eligible for special categories

💡 Innovation

Recognition for: Originality and practical applicability

Key Question: “Does the innovation demonstrate clear originality and practical value that justify this award?”

🤝 Level of Integration (TCM + Conventional Care)

Recognition for: Outstanding integration between TCIM and biomedicine

Key Question: “Does this work present an integration model that may serve as a benchmark for best practice?”

📚 Education and Training

Recognition for: Exceptional pedagogical value and professional development

Key Question: “Does this work’s educational contribution have potential to significantly enhance learning, training or competency?”

🌍 Community Engagement and Social Impact

Recognition for: Meaningful community collaboration and demonstrable benefits

Key Question: “Is the scale of this work’s social impact sufficiently compelling to merit this award?”

🌿 Valuing Traditional Knowledge

Recognition for: Recognition, preservation and application of traditional knowledge

Key Question: “Does this work’s approach to engaging and valuing traditional knowledge set an exemplary standard?”

🌱 Sustainability and Planetary Health

Recognition for: Contributions advancing sustainability in health

Key Question: “Is this work’s contribution to sustainability and planetary health substantial and forward-looking enough?”

Evaluation and Judging Process

Main Awards Evaluation

An Evaluation Committee appointed by the Scientific Committee will:

  • Attend all presentations (oral, poster, and video) during the congress
  • Use a unified form to assign scores for in-person presentations (30% weight)
  • Submit evaluations to the Judging Committee

Special Categories Voting

How to Vote:

  • Each poster displays a unique code (ID) on its board
  • Vote through the official conference app or online form
  • For presentations, enter the presentation ID or section title
  • One vote per category per attendee

Final Judging

A Judging Committee (Scientific Committee and Congress Chairs) will:

  • Calculate final scores for main categories (previous score + presentation score)
  • Ratify the Fiocruz nomination for the Experience Report Award
  • Ratify and announce winners of special categories based on popular vote results

Tie-Breaking Criteria

  1. Highest score in the criterion with greatest weight
  2. Greater number of co-authors from different institutions
  3. Greater diversity of geographical representation among authors

Execution Timeline

Phase 1 – Preparatory Actions (COMPLETED)
  • Consolidation of technical evaluation scores
  • Preparation of evaluation forms
  • Briefing of Evaluation Committee
Phase 2 – During Congress (October 15-18)
  • Days 1-3: In-person evaluations and popular voting open
  • October 18, 4:00 PM: Public voting closes
  • October 18, after 4:00 PM: Judging Committee deliberation
  • October 18, 5:30 PM: Awards ceremony at closing session
Phase 3 – Post-Congress (Within 30 days)
  • Certificate distribution
  • Publication of results
  • Other benefits delivery

Important Rules and Restrictions

Award Limitations:

  • A work may receive maximum of 1 main award + 1 special award
  • A work cannot win 2 special awards
  • Clinical case reports are NOT eligible for special categories

Eligibility Restrictions

  • Members of organizing and scientific committees are not eligible for Main Awards, but ARE eligible for Cross-Cutting Special Categories
  • The Judging Committee may award 1-2 works per special category

Final Provisions

Cases not covered in these guidelines will be decided by the presidency of the WCTCIM Scientific Committee.
