Applications for the Excellence in Integrative Medicine Research Award are open until June 6, 2025. This prestigious international award, promoted by the European Society of Integrative Medicine (ESIM), will be presented during the Opening Ceremony of the 3rd World Congress on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (3rd WCTCIM), to be held from October 15 to 17, 2025, at Riocentro Convention Center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The initiative aims to recognize innovative scientific research that bridges conventional and complementary medicine, with prizes awarded in two categories: Basic Research and Clinical Research.

The ESIM Award

Since 2012, the ESIM Award has honored outstanding scientific contributions in the field of Integrative Medicine, becoming one of the most prestigious international distinctions in this area. The award aims to promote research that expands the boundaries of knowledge by integrating conventional and complementary approaches, fostering innovation, quality, and social impact. It encourages academic excellence, strengthens scientific collaboration networks, and gives visibility to studies that directly contribute to the advancement of evidence-informed integrative practices.

In 2025, the award will be presented during the Opening Ceremony of the 3rd WCTCIM, on October 15, in Brazil.

Award Categories and Prize

Basic Research: €2,500
Clinical Research: €2,500

Eligibility Criteria

Researchers who have published or had accepted for publication, between 2024 and 2025, a scientific study in a peer-reviewed indexed journal are eligible. Each submission must include:

  • The nominated manuscript (PDF format);
  • A one-page statement (in English and accessible to a general audience) outlining the significance of the research;
  • A short CV of the nominated authors.

Applications must be submitted via email by June 6, 2025.

About the 3rd WCTCIM

The 3rd WCTCIM is organized by the Consórcio Acadêmico Brasileiro de Saúde Integrativa (CABSIN), in partnership with the International Society for Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine Research (ISCMR) and the European Society of Integrative Medicine (ESIM). This edition marks the first time the congress will be held in Latin America. The event seeks to strengthen global public health through the diversity of knowledge systems, wellbeing societies, and planetary health, by promoting the integration of TCIM into health systems and advancing evidence-informed public policies.

The congress will bring together researchers e especialistas de todas as seis regiões da OMS, facilitando um intercâmbio internacional de conhecimento e práticas em TCIM. Com o apoio da Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS), o evento sediará discussões fundamentais sobre a implementação da Estratégia Global da OMS sobre Medicina Tradicional 2025–2034. Destaques do programa incluem o lançamento da Aliança Global de Consórcios e Instituições de Pesquisa em Medicina Tradicional, Complementar e Integrativa (TCIM) e o pré-lançamento da Biblioteca Global de Evidências sobre TCIM da OMS.

Thematic Axes of the 3rd WCTCIM

The thematic axes reflect the congress’s broad and in-depth approach, addressing scientific, clinical, cultural, environmental, and educational dimensions of TCIM. The 3rd WCTCIM is accepting various types of proposals until June 18, 2025, offering participants the opportunity to engage actively in the scientific and institutional program. Submissions include:

Scientific Abstract Submission

For researchers, professionals, and students wishing to present research results, case reports, or relevant experiences in TCIM. Selected abstracts will be presented as oral or poster presentations and published in the congress proceedings. Submissions are evaluated based on originality, alignment with the thematic axes, and methodological rigor. Abstracts must be submitted in English.

This call invites practical or reflective activities to be included in the official program, such as thematic sessions, workshops, symposia, cultural presentations, and experiential activities. Proposals must demonstrate thematic relevance, potential impact, and feasibility.

SIGs are international collaborative networks organized around strategic TCIM topics. Approved groups may hold meetings and parallel events during the congress and remain active post-event. Proposals must include clear objectives, founding members, and an initial action plan.
