Daily clinical experience often reveals unique cases that open new perspectives in Integrative Medicine. With the 3rd World Congress on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (3rd WCTCIM), a global event hosted for the first time in Latin America, a unique showcase opens up to share these findings. This moment is especially timely, as the new World Health Organization (WHO) Global Strategy for Traditional Medicine 2025-2034, approved in May, guides the qualification of the field and the strengthening of its evidence base.
In this context, Case Reports emerge as an essential source of knowledge, and the congress’s thematic axes—from oncology to planetary health—offer a clear roadmap for high-impact contributions. To transform a valuable observation into a Case Report with scientific rigor, the CARE (Case Report Guidelines) checklist is an important tool that aligns the Congress abstracts with the international publication standards of the journal Frontiers in Public Health, which will publish the event’s proceedings.
Structuring the Abstract: The Gateway
Before detailing the full story, the abstract serves as the formal presentation of your Case Report. It should be self-contained and direct, divided into four essential points: an introduction to the case’s uniqueness, the main symptoms and clinical findings, the interventions and outcomes, and the main lesson learned (“take-away”). This initial summary is crucial, as it determines the first impact of your work on reviewers and future readers, establishing the foundation for the in-depth analysis that follows.
The CARE Checklist Roadmap: Step by Step
The complete structure of the Case Report follows a logical sequence that builds a robust and transparent clinical narrative. Each step has a specific function to ensure the reader understands the context, intervention, and conclusions unequivocally.
From Introduction to Patient Information
The starting point is an introduction that justifies the case’s relevance. Next, the patient’s information, properly de-identified, sets the scene, detailing the main complaints and the medical, psychosocial, and family history. This section grounds the clinical picture.
Timeline and Diagnostic Assessment
Creating a timeline is mandatory and organizes all events of the care episode. Consequently, the Diagnostic Assessment describes the tests, the challenges in reaching a diagnosis, and the prognosis, offering a complete view of the clinical reasoning.
Intervention, Follow-up, and Outcomes
The Therapeutic Intervention section is the core of the report. Here, the type of treatment, its administration, and any changes made are detailed. The follow-up complements this view, presenting the outcomes, treatment adherence, and the occurrence of adverse events.
Discussion, Perspective, and Consent
Finally, the Discussion critically analyzes the strengths and limitations of the case, connecting it to the relevant literature. The patient’s perspective offers a valuable human dimension, while the confirmation of informed consent ensures the publication’s ethics. The text concludes with the case’s main message, the “take-away”.
The final submission deadline is July 15, 2025. Don’t miss the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of global health. Prepare and submit your Case Report through the official portal.
