3rd WCTCIM: A global platform for innovation and cooperation in TCIM
From October 15 to 18, 2025, Riocentro in Rio de Janeiro will host the 3rd World Congress on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (3rd WCTCIM). This historic edition, the first to be held in Latin America, will gather experts from more than 50 countries to foster unprecedented exchanges between traditional knowledge and emerging technologies—such as artificial intelligence in TCIM research, Indigenous health, and the discovery of new medicines from medicinal plants.
With a multilingual and inclusive program, the event will address strategic topics such as scientific evidence on critical public health issues, planetary health, sustainability, and the integration of Traditional and Complementary Medicine into health systems. More than a congress, the 3rd WCTCIM is regarded as a milestone in the global TCIM field for launching and discussing the WHO Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025–2034, with real impact on health systems in over 170 countries committed to this agenda.
Organized by the Brazilian Academic Consortium for Integrative Health (CABSIN) in partnership with the International Society for Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine Research (ISCMR) and the European Society of Integrative Medicine (ESIM), the event is also a strategic opportunity to present concrete proposals — such as SIGs — and to consolidate global networks that will contribute to the future of planetary health in the context of the climate crisis.
With the theme “Strengthening Global Public Health through Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine: Knowledge Diversity, Well-Being Societies, Planetary Health”, the congress will bring together participants from more than 50 countries to address the major challenges and opportunities of TCIM on a global scale.
The core thematic axes to be discussed in plenary sessions include:
- (A) Diversity in the field of Traditional and Complementary Medicine
- (B) Integration of TCIM into health systems across the six WHO regions
- (C) Evidence-informed contributions of TCIM to public health
- (D) Lifespan care using TCIM
- (E) Education and training in TCIM
- (F) Planetary health, OneHealth, and well-being societies
These themes structure the program and reflect the multidimensional approach of the event, connecting traditional knowledge, scientific innovation, and sustainable policies across all six regions of the world.
