ISCMR Approves Rio de Janeiro’s Bid to Host the 3rd WCTCIM

The proposal by CABSIN to host the World Congress on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine for the first time in Latin America, in collaboration with the International Society for Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine Research (ISCMR) and the European Society of Integrative Medicine, has been approved for 2025.

The decision, announced by the board of the International Society for Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine Research (ISCMR), confirmed Brazil as the host for the third edition of the World Congress on Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (WCTCIM) in 2025. The event will take place in Rio de Janeiro between September and October, with exact dates to be confirmed. Until now, ISCMR has organized eight international events in Europe, seven in North America, two in Asia, and two in Oceania. The event in Rio de Janeiro will mark the first edition in Latin America.

The proposal, led by the Brazilian Academic Consortium for Integrative Health (CABSIN), the ISCMR Chapter Brazil, was approved by the entity as well as the European Society of Integrative Medicine (ESIM). The bid received support from entities in the Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) field from over 17 countries. Key supporters of Rio de Janeiro’s proposal included partners such as the MTCI Americas Network, PICS Brazil Network, and professional societies and universities from the United States, Australia, Israel, India, South Africa, Cuba, among others.

The 2nd World Congress on Integrative Medicine and Health (WCIM&H) took place in September 2023 in Italy, organized by the ISCMR in partnership with the Fondazione Artoi and the European Society of Integrative Medicine. CABSIN was one of the co-organizers of the event, mobilizing the participation of 27 Brazilian researchers who submitted scientific papers and engaged in significant activities related to Integrative Health throughout the event.

During the congress, more than 800 professionals from 51 countries participated, with over 700 papers submitted. The 2nd WCIM&H was not just an event to present research and discuss advancements; it also took on the challenge of consolidating an international network of researchers, clinicians, and therapists in the field of Integrative Health. The announcement of Rio de Janeiro as the host city for the next congress in 2025 reinforces Brazil’s position as a key player in the international research and practice of Integrative Medicine and Health, particularly in public health, paving the way for more integrated and holistic care in the Americas.
